Starting a Pre-School is obviously a big step in any child’s life, and the way in which they respond will vary. A child who is tense or unhappy will not be able to play and learn properly, so we encourage parents/carers and staff to work together to help the child feel confident and secure in the group. We recognise that this takes longer for some children than for others, and parents/carers should not be worried if their child takes a while to settle. Please feel free to speak with the Manager, Sam Hobbs if you have any worries or concerns regarding the settling of your child. (WE HAVE TEA AND TISSUES)

For the child to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including some messy ones, we suggest your child wears clothes that are durable and washable.  Simple jogging bottoms or pull on trousers/skirts that children can handle themselves will enable them to handle their personal (toilet times) with greater ease and efficiency. Please try to send the child in clothing without fasteners (buttons and zips) and please no belts, as these are restrictive, time-consuming and may cause embarrassment at toilet times.

When to send your child to pre-school is your decision, and we try to accommodate all. All children benefit from being at pre-school and as you can see from the above, activities are laid out to cover all areas of learning.

We understand the questions you may ask yourself… IS IT TOO SOON?

IS IT HIS OR HER TIME? WILL THEY SETTLE? WILL THEY SUFFER FROM SEPARATION ANXIETY?

There is no right or wrong answer to any of these questions. Each and every child is an individual and develops at their own rate.

WE CAN ASSURE YOU that we treat each and every child as an individual. With over 34 years' experience and with many hundreds of children passing through our doors, we know the signs. We are here to work with you, support you and your child to become familiar and feel safe and secure within our setting, and to enjoy the new experiences they will gain from being with a group of peers and caring members of staff.
